MServer M.U.D. Codebase

MServer is a M.U.D. Codebase built from scratch that takes advantage of the new and optimized features of C++. In appearance it is similar to SMAUG, yet the code behind its appearance is nothing like any other M.U.D. out there. Online Building is completely integrated in MServer, so that different levels of PCs may edit/create pieces of their world. Entire areas are self-contained in single files, with a simple and easy to read structure that makes manual editing easier than ever before. MServer is so easy to use anybody can create their own custom M.U.D. without any knowledge of C++.

Overview of Project

The project was started in 2001 with a goal of accomplishing something worth while, but has now turned into an adventure for the long-haul.  Why program a M.U.D. you may ask? And why not, I'll respond. Though M.U.D.s may seem like simple games with little or no artificial intelligence, they are in reality much more. This is the reason I've embarked on this adventure, to achieve greatness and to learn something in the process. Now to those of you that hear this reason as a bunch of hoo-hah, I appologize. I wish it were for some greater reason which I started this project, but it is nothing more than this. Know this however, it does not stop my creativity or dedication to my works.

Releases

In all reality there have actually been three different releases of the MServer codebase. The first and original release was titled Dragon Slayer and was written in primitive Pascal (though I did have knowledge of C++ at the time, it was actually a project for my Computer class), the second entitled Merlin, was stopped because it became unorganized and poorly written. Unfortunately, I do not have copies of the first releases available for the world to see, I prefer to call them learning blocks. Anyhow, the third and final edition is optimized, well written, and full of features, therefore it will be relinquished into the world of cyberspace.

I am proud to have finally created a new combat structure that is different from the rest of the popular M.U.D.s out there (and easier to program too!).  Look out for it the next release of MServer 2...
